Valentine .....saint or sinner?

All who want to shoot cupid in the head say I......wow....those are many hands......(mumurs)
Poor chap, what he do? Yes, uhuh, what was that? Arrows not being shot at the right heart? uhuh. ok......You there, what is that? Speak up please. Pardon me? Gladness from the gods? No? ooh u mean.."MADness from the gods? hihihi, i see. ok Let us carry on.

Cupid stories spread far and wide, he has been connected to valentines day but he generally is active in and out of season. Shooting arrows where hearts are.(curses from crowd)
Ahem! We proceed. The roots of St. Valentine's Day lie in the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, which was celebrated on Feb. 15. For 800 years the Romans had dedicated this day to the god Lupercus. On Lupercalia, a young man would draw the name of a young woman in a lottery and would then keep the woman as a sexual companion for the year......Clearly that did not urger well with Pope Gelasius the first, who changed the lottery to have both young men and women draw the names of saints whom they would then emulate for the year. And the patron of that feast was changed from Lupercalia to Valentine...
So the Roman men would use Valentine's name in love letters they wrote to those they sought affection. Hence the tradition of exchanging valentine cards, presenting flowers and offering confectionery.

And so the day .......huh? was that someone with a question? you disagree with this? ok so what do you think are the origins of Valentine day? yes.... uhuh ok . You think it was named after a priest in the Roman Empire who helped persecuted Christians during the reign of Claudius II, and was thrown in jail and later beheaded on Feb. 14? ok. Anyone else differs? ok . Speak up now. uhuh. You say it was named after someone who secretly married couples when marriage was forbidden, or suffered in Africa? Was this guy beheaded too? Maybe? ok that is an interesting perspective.
Anybody else? uhuh? yes? A martyr you say? a Catholic bishop of terni? ok...i have noted that.
Somebody else?............. anyone....?

Ok You probably are all right. We can correctly conclude that Valentines day was named after some guy and that it has to do with the love emotion. And that ends the session "Valentine...saint or sinner" .Thank you for your participation. Have a good one.
